Supermom Transfer of Innovation

Starting in October 2010, Possibilities NI is a partner on the Supermom Transfer of Innovation Project, funded by a Leonardo da Vinci grant from the Lifelong Learning Programme. Supermom offers vocational orientation and training in film skills for unemployed single parents, both mothers and fathers.

The training combines vocational training courses and practical work with informal learning and confidence training. This combination empowers the lone parents, raises their professional as well as personal competencies, and increases their opportunities in the labour market.

Possibilities NI is leading on the development of a course which will provide the beneficiaries with confidence and social skills training prior to their practical media skills training. This course, which is based upon our previous work under the Empower: Lone Parents Building Confidence and Accessing Employment project, will then be adapted for use in each partner country.

We are currently running the Supermom film skills pilot course in Belfast!

The course began on 17 October with 13 participants, and they have all been working hard to learn about filmmaking and prepare their short film. The film was shot last week (24 and 25 November), and after editing and the preparation of promotional materials, the film will be screened for the course participants on 19 December. We will also hold a Belfast premiere of the film in the spring of 2012!
